Chipotle Workers Denied Class Status in Race, Origin Bias Suit

A group of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. employees who allege the restaurant systematically discriminates against Hispanic and Mexican workers in California through “English-only” and other policies can’t proceed as a class, a California federal court ruled Wednesday.

The employees didn’t sufficiently establish that common, predominant questions existed, or that the named plaintiffs’ claims were typical of the class, Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. said. The court denied the employees’ bid to certify a class of 43,000 Chipotle employees in California.
