‘Chicanery’ at Tenure Review Not Evidence of Race Bias: 7th Cir.

A black professor at Indiana University who was hired under a minority recruitment initiative failed to prove that he wasn’t granted tenure because of his race, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled.

The “bulk” of his case rested on “allegations of chicanery” during the tenure review process, the court said. Even if true, there was no evidence that anyone tried to deny Ray Haynes tenure because of his race, it said.
