More than 500 Chicago teachers plan to ditch their classroom duties Dec. 4 and hoist picket signs in the first-ever strike targeting a charter school network in U.S. history.
The Chicago Teachers Union announced plans Nov. 14 for a work stoppage at 15 schools operated by Acero Charter Schools, pointing to a stalemate in bargaining with the charter school network. If talks continue to stagnate, the union said it would send 536 educators to picket lines in a campaign for wage equity with traditional teachers serving Chicago Public Schools.
