Chevron Beats Employee’s Retaliation Suit in California

Chevron USA Inc. won’t face a former employee’s claim she was fired for refusing to comply in age discrimination against a subordinate, because the company showed a legitimate reason for firing her, a California appellate court said.

The company couldn’t have known that longtime employee Susan Colborn was opposing alleged discrimination when she repeatedly refused to meet with her supervisor and failed to complete her managerial duties, the California Court of Appeal, First District, said Jan. 29.

Colborn, who said she worked for Chevron and a subsidiary from 1988 until she was fired in 2011, sued the company in 2013. ...
