A former Charlotte, N.C., police officer is entitled to roughly $1.7 million in equitable remedies on top of the $125,000 a jury awarded for sex discrimination, a federal judge ruled.
The city must pay Michael Tinsley $699,820 in back wages to compensate him for his inability to find equivalent work after it illegally fired him, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina said April 26. The city failed to show Tinsley, who only earned $40,322 between when he was fired and the date of judgment, didn’t do enough to minimize his damages, the court said.
