Catholic Group Shielded From Pregnancy Bias Rule During Appeal

The EEOC is temporarily blocked from requiring a Catholic group to accommodate workers who seek abortions as the organization seeks broader restrictions on the agency’s pregnancy bias rules on appeal, a Louisiana federal judge said.

Judge David C. Joseph of the US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana granted an injunction pending appeal to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. It will prevent the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from enforcing a portion its Pregnant Workers Fairness Act rule against the group that covers accommodations that the group said would violate its religious beliefs.
