Citizens Bank, N.A. is entitled to summary judgment on claims by retail bankers alleging that the bank violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and and Massachusetts and Pennsylvania state wage laws when it failed to pay overtime compensation for time the bankers spent outside of regular work hours studying for required licensing exams. The bankers weren’t entitled to overtime compensation because they were selected for their position on the condition that they would participate in the mandatory training and obtain certain licenses, and the studying didn’t directly and immediately benefit the bank given that the tasks they performed during work ...
