The Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office is entitled to summary judgment on a legal assistant’s Family and Medical Leave Act retaliation claim alleging she was terminated after requesting leave to care for her sick mother, a Florida federal district court ruled. Although her termination occurred 17 days after her FMLA request, the court found that her employer had legitimate nondiscriminatory reasons—her attending an unapproved volunteer event against company policy and dishonesty related to her remote work environment—to terminate her employment.
