Arbitrator Gregory P. Szuter sustained the Fraternal Order of Police’s grievance regarding whether the grievant, an officer working for Hinckley Township, should have received additional pay for a shift where the grievant was required to assume the duties of a supervisor during that shift even though the need to perform such duties didn’t arise. The union argued that the collective bargaining agreement provided for the grievant to receive additional pay for any shift where he would have to assume supervisory duties, regardless of whether he was called upon to actually perform those duties during the shift.
