An Illinois federal district court granted summary judgment in favor of Siemens Industry Inc. on a female engineer’s claims of sex discrimination, retaliation, and a hostile work environment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act after she was terminated due to a reduction in force. The RIF decision was made before she made her discrimination complaints to human resources, she couldn’t show that the decision-maker knew about her prior complaints to her supervisor, and she failed to show that the decision was pretextual or motivated by discriminatory bias, the court said.
