A federal district court in New Jersey granted summary judgment to Anthem on the national origin discrimination and retaliation claims under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination of a Black female of Guyanese descent employed as a supervisor of personal services. The employee claimed she was terminated based on her nationality and in retaliation for reporting alleged derogatory comments by coworkers about her accent to human resources. She couldn’t establish a nexus between the alleged comments and the termination decision, and didn’t offer evidence of hostility toward her nationality, the court said.
