Caribou Coffee, Einstein Bros. Accused of Underpaying Employees

Caribou Coffee Co. Inc. and Einstein Bros. Bagels are facing allegations that they cheated employees out of overtime wages and paid breaks in a proposed collective action filed in Texas federal court.

Wendy Edmonds, who works at an Einstein location in Dallas but says her paychecks identify Caribou as her employer, sued Aug. 8 on behalf of other similarly situated employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act’s overtime and anti-retaliation provisions.

The companies routinely deducted time from employees’ hours for meal breaks that they didn’t take or receive, and failed to compensate employees for short breaks, according to the complaint ...
