A settlement between Cargill Meat Logistics Solutions Inc. and two truck drivers who allege paycheck deductions push their earnings below minimum wage was rejected by a judge who told them to settle out of court.
Courts often require parties to submit a proposed settlement for judicial review so they can evaluate whether it’s a fair and reasonable resolution, or carry out a Labor Department-supervised process. Larger dollar amounts and class actions in which the rights of individuals who aren’t actively engaged in litigating the case may receive a more meticulous review.
