Campaign to Create NFL Running Back Union Falters at NLRB (1)

A bid to carve running backs out of the National Football League Players Association and include them in a new union has run aground at the federal labor board.

There’s no merit to the International Brotherhood of Professional Running Backs’ petition to clarify the NFLPA’s bargaining unit of players because running backs aren’t a newly established job type, they haven’t gone through any recent changes in duties, and they’re covered by an existing collective bargaining agreement, a National Labor Relations Board official said in a Sept. 17 dismissal order.
