California Worker-Friendly Bills Stay Alive at Mid-Year Deadline

California lawmakers advanced a raft of labor-backed bills designed to address the growing gig economy and expand leave available for workers.

The bills moved from their house of origin on largely party lines in the Democrat-controlled Assembly and Senate. They further push California’s employee-protective stance in the nation.

The state Assembly and Senate slammed through the bills to make the May 31 deadline to advance legislation from their house of origin.
