California Pushing for Higher Payouts in ‘Wage Theft’ Cases

The California Labor Commissioner’s Office says it is aggressively going after companies accused of “wage theft.”

An example of that approach came this month when Labor Commissioner Julie A. Su announced an award of $363,625 to six car wash workers at two Los Angeles-area companies. The workers put in 10 to 12 hours each day and were paid far below the state’s minimum wage, according to a statement.
