US Judge to Weigh Limiting Military Troops in LA on Thursday

California’s bid to limit military involvement in the Los Angeles immigration protests will be taken up by a judge Thursday, meaning that a pullback by the Trump administration before then is unlikely.

The state is seeking a court order temporarily restraining the deployment of thousands of troops from the National Guard and the US Marines amid protests over President Donald Trump’s immigration raids.

In their request for an emergency order by Tuesday afternoon, attorneys for the state argued that the military deployment “creates imminent harm to state sovereignty” and “escalates tensions.”
