Companies that move their call centers out of California would risk a five-year ban on obtaining state grants, loans, and tax credits under a proposal headed to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The Assembly passed the measure (A.B. 1601) Tuesday, setting up a challenge for the Democratic governor, who’ll have to decide whether to sign the labor-friendly bill after previously vetoing similar legislation, saying he didn’t want to dampen business investment in California.
Ahead of this week’s votes in the Senate and Assembly, a California Chamber of Commerce lobbyist had warned that the measure could violate international trade agreements. ...
