California Leads Way as Worker Shortage Deepens Across US States

For all the high-profile layoffs in Silicon Valley, California is still suffering from a worker shortage.

The Golden State led a nationwide jump in job vacancies in April that reversed recent declines and keeps pressure on the Federal Reserve to consider more interest-rate hikes.

California had 112,000 additional openings in the month, according to data published Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, followed by Maryland with 46,000. Fifteen states saw vacancies climb, compared with declines in four states — the biggest came in Virginia — as well as the District of Columbia. The other 31 states saw little ...
