Californians who belong to a labor union would get a tax credit for at least a portion of their union dues under a bill lawmakers sent to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) Wednesday.
The measure would make California the first state to give union members a tax credit—rather than a tax deduction—for their dues. It would take effect in 2024, but only if lawmakers include money in the budget to fund the credit.
