California Fines Construction Firm $1.7 Million After Wage Probe

The California labor commissioner cited a San Diego-based construction company $1.7 million for allegedly failing to properly pay 265 workers on commercial and residential projects, the agency said.

The citations against JPI Construction Inc. followed a two-year investigation into claims the privately held company consistently failed to pay overtime and minimum wage to workers on mixed-use projects in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas. The company has appealed the citations, the agency said Monday. Company representatives couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
