Two janitorial companies that clean theaters, restaurants and other facilities were ordered to pay nearly $2 million for allegedly misclassifying workers and failing to pay overtime and minimum wage and for rest and meal violations, the California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Labor Standards Enforcement said in a May 8 statement.
Van Nuys, Calif.-based NLP Janitorial Inc. and Lees Summit, Mo.-based Coast to Coast West Inc. worked jointly to provide cleaning services, according to the DLSE, also known as the Labor Commissioner’s office. The companies are being cited for violations of the state labor code.
