Santa Clara County partially won its bid to throw out a whistleblower’s retaliation lawsuit for reporting alleged safety violations at one of its public hospitals.
Gerardo Segura, the former chief educator in the sterile processing department at Santa Clara’s Valley Medical Center, claimed that his firing violated state anti-discrimination and whistleblower protections laws. Segura sued the county alleging he was fired after he reported to his superiors and the California Department of Public Health that the hospital failed to follow sterile processing standards for some medical equipment.
