California Closes Paid-Leave Gap for Workers Sick With Covid-19

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed legislation allowing all workers to receive paid sick leave if they contract the coronavirus through the end of this year.

The measure (A.B. 1867) Newsom signed Thursday includes workplaces with 500 or more employees that were exempted from requiring paid sick leave in the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act, as well as first responders and health-care workers whose employers opted not to cover their employees under federal law.
