California Bill to Put Drivers in AV Trucks Clears First Hurdle

A California legislative committee approved a bill Monday to require autonomous large trucks on the state’s roadways have a human driver on board, the first test of the measure’s viability amid wrangling between the labor movement and the tech sector.

Ten members of the state Assembly Transportation Committee voted for the bill, with Marc Berman (D) and Joe Patterson (R) abstaining. Additional committee members may sign on by the end of the day as the vote was held open this afternoon.
