California’s occupational safety and health agency wrapped up a comment period Dec. 17 for a new, highly publicized health-care workplace violence proposal with a public hearing, and the state’s policy makers are now set to move forward with implementation in the coming months.
The California Nurses Association and the Service Employees International Union state alliance championed the proposal in comments and testimony, while the California Hospital Association weighed in with a range of concerns and critiques. The proposal, along with recently passed legislation that provides the framework for the rulemaking, continues to pit health-care workers against employers.
