Cablevision to Face Trial on Worker’s Age, Disability Claims

A former Cablevision Systems Corp. employee may be able to show she was fired because she was 52 years old and had just returned from gallbladder surgery, the New Jersey Appellate Division ruled.

That means trial is required on Ada Caballero’s claims against the cable television giant under New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination, a two-judge panel said April 24. A lower state court erred when it granted summary judgment to Cablevision, the appeals court said.

Cablevision contends it discharged Caballero because she failed to timely disclose her divorce so she could fraudulently maintain health insurance benefits for her ex-husband. But ...
