Businesses Seeking H-1B Visas Must Pay Additional $10 Fee

Businesses applying for H-1B visas will have to pay an additional $10 for each registration they submit to the Department of Homeland Security to enter an annual selection lottery, the agency said in a final rule published Nov. 7.

H-1B visas are reserved for skilled guestworkers in specialty occupations, and are distributed through an annual lottery overseen by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The visas often are used by employers in the technology industry, such as Alphabet Inc.'s Google, Apple Inc., and Microsoft Corp., among many others.
