Businesses Can Access 15,000 Additional Seasonal Worker Visas

An additional 15,000 seasonal foreign worker visas will be available over the summer, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen “determined there are not sufficient, qualified, U.S. workers available to perform temporary non-agriculture labor to satisfy the needs of American businesses” in fiscal year 2018, the agency said in a May 25 statement.

Congress authorized the agency to increase the visa numbers after all 33,000 available for the second half of the fiscal year were used up by March 1, prompting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to conduct its first-ever H-2B lottery.
