California—now one of the few states with both indoor and outdoor heat rules that require an employer to implement worker heat stress protections—is still up against some feasibility concerns over the new standard.
The standard applies to most indoor workplaces like warehouses, restaurants, and manufacturing facilities. Employers in the state are now required by law to implement work-rest schedules and provide heat-protective equipment to shield them from heat illness, California’s Department of Industrial Relations said in a statement.
