Burr Claims Top GOP Spot on Senate Health, Education Panel

Richard Burr intends to become the top Republican on a key Senate health and education committee, ending months of uncertainty over who would take the post.

Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), who retired at the end of the last Congress, preferred Burr (N.C.) to replace himself as the leading Republican on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. An FBI investigation into Burr’s stock trades and a protracted disagreement over how to organize the Senate have delayed an official announcement.
