Builders Skanska, Granite, Lane Share $189,000 in Safety Fines

A consortium of contractors Skanska USA, Granite Construction, and The Lane Construction Corp. face federal safety citations stemming from the death of a worker and another accident on a Florida highway project.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Wednesday announced it was proposing fines totaling $188,913 against the joint venture Skanska-Granite-Lane, commonly called SGL Constructors.

SGL declined to discuss the citations.

The fatality occurred Sept. 28 when a concrete beam being lowered into place fell onto an aerial lift holding two workers, killing one of the laborers and leading to the hospitalization of the other.
