Brown University Grad Students Choose Unionization

Brown University graduate student employees voted in favor of a union Nov. 19, according to an announcement from officials at the Providence, R.I., school.

The preliminary tally after a four-day voting process was 576 for the union to 394 against, Brown Provost Richard Locke and Andrew Campbell, graduate school dean, said in the email announcement. The union’s name will be Stand Up for Graduate Student Employees (SUGSE) and will be affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers.
