Brooklyn Construction Firm Settles Feds’ Class Race Bias Lawsuit

Laquila Group Inc. will pay $625,000 and take measures to eliminate race bias and retaliation against black construction laborers, the federal government announced.

Preventing systemic harassment is an enforcement priority of the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which brought the lawsuit in September 2016. The EEOC alleged that Laquila engaged in systemic discrimination against black employees as a class by subjecting them to racial harassment, including referring to them using the N-word, “gorilla,” and similar epithets.
