Black Police Sergeant’s Retaliation Suit Can Proceed, in Part

A Black police officer can proceed with retaliation claims in his lawsuit against an Illinois city over discriminatory remarks he allegedly received from his superiors.

Dashun Walker sued the City of Markham in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleging that he endured race-based harassment and that he was retaliated against when he complained. The city argued Walker’s claims should be dismissed because the treatment he alleged didn’t rise to the level of creating a hostile work environment.
