Biden Taps Lisa Gomez as New Chief for DOL Benefits Agency (1)

President Joe Biden will nominate attorney Lisa Gomez to be assistant secretary of labor for employee benefits, a Senate-confirmed position that oversees the Labor Department’s regulation and enforcement of private-sector health and retirement plans.

The Employee Benefits Security Administration has been led on an acting basis by Ali Khawar, a political appointee who took over in March.

Gomez is a partner at Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP in New York, a labor-friendly New York firm with deep ties to some of the nation’s biggest unions. She chairs the firm’s management committee. If confirmed, she would play a leading role in ...
