Biden Mulls Changes to Federal Internships to Hire Young Talent

The Biden administration is reviewing the U.S. government’s oft-maligned internship system and its process for hiring recent graduates, seeking ways to replenish an aging federal workforce.

The push builds on President Joe Biden‘s longstanding pledge to restock federal agencies hollowed out by attrition and, federal unions say, low morale caused by the Trump administration’s attacks on the civil service. It is likely to include changes to the government’s Pathways Programs, an internship system that critics contend is part of the reason why just 6.8% of federal employees were under age 30 as of December.
