The reauthorization of a decades-old massive workforce development program is on lawmakers’ radar as President Joe Biden and businesses, especially the tech industry, push for a more skill-based economy.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which expired in 2020, authorizes funding for most of the job training initiatives at the state level through the US Department of Labor. Workforce training has been a priority for the White House, with the president most recently calling for workforce education legislation in his State of the Union address.
