BB&T Insurance Subsidiary Wins Suit Over Broker’s Noncompete

A Branch Banking & Trust Co. insurance subsidiary can enforce a noncompete agreement against a former employee because the contract covers servicing customers who left the subsidiary on their own, a federal court in Texas said.

BB&T is now known as Truist Bank.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas rejected Joffrey L. Clark’s argument that the noncompete only prohibited him from soliciting McGriff Insurance Services Inc.'s customers, not from servicing customers who followed him to Edgewood Partners Insurance Center.
