Bank of America Accused of Bias by Fired Pregnant Muslim Worker (1)

A former Bank of America employee in Illinois says she was denied accommodations, made to cancel medical appointments, told she should stay home with her kids, and then fired because she was pregnant, a federal lawsuit charges.

Madawi Bishtawi, who is Middle Eastern and Muslim, says the discrimination and harassment also targeted her national origin and religion. One supervisor told her it was her responsibility as a Middle Eastern women to stay home with her children. Another asked her why she wasn’t wearing a hijab—a Muslim headscarf—and stated that the religious fasting Muslims do during Ramadan is “weird,” Bishtawi says ...
