Tennessee employers will be barred from paying less than minimum wage to workers with disabilities under legislation headed to Gov. Bill Lee for his signature.
The legislation, SB 2042, would bar Tennessee employers from seeking a federal 14(c) waiver from minimum wage law—named for the section of the Fair Labor Standards Act that created the waivers.
Lawmakers passed the bill with broad bipartisan support, on an 89-0 vote Monday in the House, following a 27-3 vote March 7 in the Senate. The Republican governor’s office will review the bill, spokeswoman Laine Arnold said.
