Baby on Board: Senate Scraps Ban on Newborns in Chamber

Tammy Duckworth, who made history this month as the first U.S. senator to give birth while in office, won the right to bring her infant daughter onto the chamber’s floor after the Senate voted to scrap its long-standing ban.

Baby Maile Pearl Bowlsbey, born April 9, will be able to accompany her mother to the floor for votes under a resolution (S. Res. 463) the Senate adopted by voice vote tonight. The rule allows senators to bring a child under one year of age into the chamber for votes.
