A former Avon procurement official who says she was fired a few days after her pregnancy became known sued the company.
Caroline Ruiz, a former global head of North America indirect procurement, asked to work remotely after her doctor recommended bedrest. A few weeks after she began working for Avon, Ruiz had been treated for heavy bleeding in an emergency room, where she learned she had a high-risk pregnancy. Avon rejected her request to work from home even though employees routinely worked remotely, she said.
