Avis SeaTac Airport Contractor Defeats Suit Under $15 Wage Law

A company that shuttled cars between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and nearby Avis Budget Car Rental LLC locations fell outside the reach of the city of SeaTac’s $15 minimum wage law and doesn’t owe a group of employees for allegedly underpaying them, the Washington Court of Appeals ruled Monday.

GCA Production Services isn’t covered by SeaTac Municipal Code §7.45.010 because it didn’t provide rental car services, the court said. The provisions of the Seattle suburb’s 2014 ordinance cited by the workers only applies to transportation employers who operate or provide such services while utilizing a fleet of 100 or more cars ...
