UAW Targets Hyundai Plant in Push to Unionize Foreign Makers (1)

The United Auto Workers is aiming to organize workers at Hyundai Motor Co.'s only US plant, marking an expansion in its campaign to win over foreign automakers.

The union said Thursday it had collected cards of support from more than 30% of workers at the Hyundai Montgomery facility in Alabama, meeting the threshold to file for a union election. The plant marks the first Asian manufacturer to be targeted under an aggressive UAW push to organize foreign companies in the nonunion South after decades of failure.
