Aruba Airlines Settles $75,000 Pregnancy Discrimination Suit

Arubaanse Luchtvaart Maatschappij Nv, Inc., doing business as Aruba Airlines, has agreed to pay $75,000 and furnish other relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency said.

The airline allegedly violated federal law when a pregnant employee in the Miami corporate office was fired soon after she announced her pregnancy, said the EEOC.

Such alleged conduct violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In addition to monetary relief, Aruba Airlines must enforce a policy against discrimination based on pregnancy and provide anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation training to employees, the ...
