Weekly unemployment benefits in Arizona will increase from a maximum of $240 to $320 under a law Gov. Doug Ducey (R) signed Wednesday.
The measure (S.B. 1828) passed as part of the state budget, which also included sweeping income tax cuts. The unemployment boost will start July 1, 2022.
Many Republicans in the state legislature supported the move, saying the state’s weekly rate has gone years without an adjustment and that the Covid-19 pandemic increased the needs of many residents.
