About 185 employees of the USDA’s National Institute for Food and Agriculture will be represented by the American Federation of Government Employees as workers voted 137 to 2 in favor of union representation June 11.
One of the first orders of business for the union will be fighting an effort by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to move NIFA out of the Washington area, said Peter Winch, a special assistant for AFGE District 14 in Washington. The AFGE already represents about 10,000 USDA employees.
