American Water Works Co. Inc.'s former director of employment and labor law says the water company unlawfully fired her for complaining about sex discrimination and seeking to take leave.

Pamela Richardson sued American Water and its subsidiary, American Water Works Service Co. Inc., in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey on Tuesday.

Richardson says she was hired in 2016 as the director of labor and employment. In 2022, she applied for leave to care for her ailing father under the Family Medical Leave Act and New Jersey Family Leave Act, but a male supervisor, James Gallegos, ...
