American National Insurance Co. failed to convince a federal court in Texas to dismiss a lawsuit by a former employee, who says the company discriminated against him because he is black.
David Hoyte, who was employed by American National as an agent in 2007 and later promoted to district manager, sued American National in March 2020 for discrimination and retaliation.
He said the company demoted him based on his race, and also fired him based on his race or because he complained about the demotion, using his real estate and other personal investment endeavors as a pretext.
